Hey guys! I’m bubbling with excitement. It sounds so corny, I know ๐Ÿ˜‚ but this project is one that as I went along and started to see everything unfold I actually squealed sooo many times. Maybe too many times ๐Ÿ˜…. This kid’s diy homework station is filled with so many fun and affordable DIY’s that look as if it cost triple as much to create. Can you believe this whole DIY cost around $100? And that’s including the decor and accessories ๐Ÿงก.

DIY Kid’s Desk

The biggest money saver was this DIY wall desk! I had been shopping around for desks online and I just couldn’t justify spending the money as many were $100 or over. Here is such a budget friendly option that is also customize-able to your own space and needs. Here is what we used:

Board- We bought laminated pine from Lowes.

Brackets x3 heavy duty

Heavy Duty Dry Wall Anchors and Screws

Stain- I chose Natural

Polyurethane- The spray is super convenient. I linked mine below.

Simply cut the wood to size (our measurements ended up being for a double desk!) then stain and seal with poly. Secure to the wall. Using these heavy duty dry wall anchors and screws is key!! This is a heavy wall desk and you want to keep kiddos safe.

*We also ended up drilling a small circle for the lamp cord to fit through.

I chose a natural finish.
You will need these heavy duty drywall screws and anchors. They hold up to 100 lbs!

DIY Semicircle Wall Accent

I was so nervous to attempt the semicircle diy accent wall! I’ve always seemed to have a very bad track record of not making perfect shapes ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. To my surprise this was super easy and also very satisfying to see come together! Using a paint sample means this diy paint project cost $3 to make and it’s the biggest statement!! The color I used is Sashay Sand by Valspar.

I chat about this on Instagram (video will be up soon!) but essentially I took a pencil and fishing line (floss or any string will work). I tied the line to the pencil and drew a semicircle on the wall. Using a craft paint brush I painted that line (very carefully!) and then painted in the rest with a regular paint brush. It was so fun and I want to paint everything in my house now ๐Ÿ˜†.

Decor + Accessories

We had the chairs thankfully! They are metal and super easy to keep clean. I am sharing these tub chairs because they are the same material and come in a set of two! We actually have in my daughter’s room. You could say I have a love for kid’s chairs haha.

The rug was under $20 and I’m loving the muted tones and pretty pattern. Don’t get me started on the wall hooks and little llama planter. They are my favorite and under $10!! The book is goodwill and the lamp is another functional piece that I love! It has a charging station and pencil holder. Another cute item I couldn’t pass up is this magnetic globe perfect for little love notes and words of affirmation ๐Ÿฅฐ.

These yarn wrapped wall hooks are just $5! They have the same shape as the rattan anthropolgie hooks.

Wallpaper Pencils

I also had leftover wallpaper so I decided to wrap some pencils! Mechanical pencils may work best. Here is my wallpaper that I adore. I used it in my bookcase makeover if you want to take a peek at that DIY here.

The easiest little diy for leftover wallpaper!

Last DIY’S

The other two lovely DIY decor pieces include this peace sign wall art! I traced it using an online model as a template and popped it into an ikea frame. This saved my $40+ dollars because that’s what it would cost to buy it. I am linking it if you don’t want to make your own.

Last but not least it the DIY trend I am the most obsessed with this year and that is baking soda paint up cycles! Simply mix 1 tsp baking soda to 1 cup paint of your choice and up cycle dollar store and goodwill vases, pots and more! The finish ends up looked a lovely muted tone and you can even use terracotta colors to create your own ( more affordable terracotta pots). Expect to see me using this all throughout my house this year… will you?! DIY video for this will also be up soon ๐Ÿค.

BTS DIY clay pottery. I’m loving this trend! I mixed my own leftover paint samples to create this muted hue.

Not Pictured

Off to the side I have some letter trays to drop off finished work as well as a bin. I’m so glad we can finally put these awkward open shelves to good use! This space was always so awkward and nothing ever felt right no matter how much I rearranged furniture. But this space really works for us and I’m just excited to see the kids working there when we get home from school ๐Ÿฅฐ.

Thanks for stopping by today friends! I’ll get those tutorials up soon on my IGTV. If you enjoyed this post you might enjoy these free decor printables I created just for you! I’ll leave that link right here!

Until next time ๐Ÿค.
