Hello, hello friends! It’s been a quick little minute since I’ve gotten on this space with you all. Last week we were enjoying our family trip with the kiddos to San Diego. And while it was fun, but surely not relaxing… (because, kids, haha) it was certainly amazing + memorable. But more on that later because today I’m sharing how we made some cute story stones for the garden!
Remember When?
If you’ve ever watched your kids play make believe outside, then you know it’s about the best thing ever! Watching their imaginations run wild takes me back to my own childhood of making up all sorts of pretend play… good guys vs the bad guys, princesses and dragons, pirates and sharks… Ahh those were honestly the days weren’t they?!
And since I’m always looking for more ways to get the kids having more wild and free fun outdoors, I knew story stones would be a hit! What are story stones? They’re basically rocks we paint a picture on and the kids use them to make all kinds of stories. It’s so cute watching them get so attached to the stones and feeling that sense of pride over them!
The Right Pens Matter
The process was super simple, but I think that’s because I found amazing paint pens ( for a great price too) that I will share here. This DIY is super simple and turns out cute every time, no matter your drawing skills. Take it from me as I have absolutely no drawing talent whatsoever… You can NOT go wrong!
You will need:
Flat rocks (as many as you’d like!
*My family and I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you when you shop these links. Your support means the world to us so thank you!
Here are the paint pens I used and love!
There really is no guesswork here! You simply use these paint pens to paint whatever your heart desires! You can also find flat rocks here. We are about due for more rocks because the kids are loving these..!
Here are some rocks specifically titles “painting rocks”.
Using the Paint Pen is Easy!
To use the pen simply press down on a piece of paper ( I used cardstock to prevent potential leaking). The tip of the pen is initially yellow but as the paint flows you begin to see the paint color. This takes just a few seconds. Then you are ready to get painting up some fun!
Here’s what we’ve made so far!! We’re heading out to play with them today and I’ll update a few photos as we do!
Which rock is your favorite? Mine is the elephant and the ice cream of course! I hope you give this fun DIY a try!! I’d love to see a photo of how it turned out too. Have a great start to the weekend friends. Until next time, byeee!
