If you have watched my stories on Instagram then you know this project was a tough one for me! I don’t have what some would say an “insta-worthy” porch. If I could have it my way the exterior would be a different color, the steps would be resurfaced and we’d probably decide on better door moulding ๐ฌ. But as is life, sometimes those things are not in the cards. And it brings me back to what this space on the internet is REALLY about anyway… making the best out of all situations.
Grateful
Now I really don’t feel sorry for myself because I did have a field day shopping for the decor. And I’m reminded that my first world problems of not having my dream house and dream porch are really silly things to be concerned about!!!
Black Entry Door
This project started with a simple door makeover. I put up a poll on my Instagram asking which color I should paint the entry door and 75% said black!! The entry door color is Tricorn Black from Lowes HGTV by Sherwinn Williams… The moody color is beautiful ๐. To contrast the door color I made a diy wreath yesterday. You can check out that post right here.
Layered Rugs
The layered rugs add a touch of classic Fall while the water hyacinth basket with dried pampas grass gives this Fall porch a little bohemian vibe. I’m in love with this basket!! It comes in white and also tobacco. The pampas grasses I picked up (on the side of the road ๐ฌ) from our last beach trip. I sprayed them with foliage sealer but hairspray also works beautifully! If you pick them yourself, you must dry them for about 10 days until the stalks start peeling before you seal. If you can’t find any I have also included a link to some pretty ones that I love.
More Layers
Putting the porch together was super easy! After layering in the rugs, basket with grasses, and door wreath I added pumpkins and some lanterns. Oh and some pretty pink mums of course! I’m not sure if I can keep them alive, but I’m going to try my best ๐. The planter stand was a home goods find and I think it adds another nontraditional touch.
Pumpkins
The cinderella pumpkins were a Whole Foods find. For the pumpkins, I washed them first and then sprayed them with Polyurethane to seal them. I want them to last a few months so I am hoping this helps to keep them from rotting too soon. It did darken the color of the larger pumpkins but I still enjoy the color.
I’ve rounded up my porch decor here. The only thing not linked is the “HYGGE” doormat which can be found at IKEA for $8!!

Thanks for dropping by today friends! I’ve got a fun reel of my Fall Porch on my Instagram right here if you missed it ๐งก. I am so glad I didn’t let a silly insecurity about the exterior of my home stop me from decorating the porch this year. I loved this project and am feeling so excited to have guests over soon for all the cozy vibes. Signing off here ๐.
