I painted something in my house (again!)! What a surprise, I know 😉. If you missed the latest craze on this faux pottery look that’s taking over Tiktok and Instagram you can catch my Instagram reel right here where I show you the whole process. Just two ingredients: some paint and baking soda is all you will need! PLUS some old vases.
Another term for this trend is “trash to terracotta” because the project turns thrift store vases into gorgeous pottery with minimal effort.
Starting Point
The whole process started when I realized just how bored I truly was with our open shelves in the dining room… I needed something quick, cute, and cheap because well Christmas is right around the corner and now is not the time to be redecorating my WHOLE dining room 😬. Tell me you’ve been there?!
Paint Mixing
This makeover was the easiest to date. To create the diy faux pottery I used leftover paint samples in my favorite color scheme and mixed them here and there with the baking soda to makeover these thrift store vases. It all cost me less than $20 because I had the paint already 🙌. Here are the colors I used:
-HGTV by Sherwinn Williams at Lowes in Rugged Coast mixed with Malted Milk for a muted pink hue.
-HGTV by Sherwinn Williams at Lowes in Bohemian Lace (I only painted 4 in this color for just the right amount of contrast).
Paper Palm Leaves
To add more dimension and texture to the whole look I created these super simple craft paper palm leaves for a little boho spin. I love how it contrasts so nicely against the white vases especially! It even reminds me a bit about our recent trip to Arizona where we saw palm trees everywhere (obvi!). Here is the simple tutorial I used to create the paper palm leaves.
Layered Greenery
Once the faux pottery and boho paper palm leaves were up I simply filled in the gaps with some greenery. One is real and the other is fake… Can you tell which one?!
Thrift Store Baskets
I also did score some cutie basket goodness from my recent Goodwill trip so I popped those on the shelves too! And of course, I feel like my dining room is not complete until there is some fresh eucalyptus on the table 😍.
Dining Room Links
And since I get questions ALL the time about this gorgeous wood sign in my dining room I went ahead and linked it right below as well as all other items from my dining room.
