Hello there sweet friends. I hope your coffee is hot and you are wrapped up in something cozy because today’s post will leave you will all of the happy holiday feels. Today I’m sharing about my favorite topic ever… budget decor, for the holidays.
Budget decor is, in my opinion, the best kind of decor there is because it just takes a little creativity and an appreciation for the simple things to create something beautiful. And what’s more, it takes the pressure off of buying a bunch of extra “stuff” that you may not even love next year. Are your toes warm? Good, let’s get to it!
Oh Greenery
Extra clippings from the tree in the trash? Woahh, hold it there. Before you trash those beautiful little bundles of cheer, grab a vase and some scissors. It’s amazing what a pop of fresh tree clippings can do in a vase that you already own. As you can see, I used these large glass beverage jars that I snagged from IKEA and popped in a few fresh clippings. It’s the perfect statement and can be added anywhere.
No tree clippings, no problem. Lowes has a TON of fresh clippings in their nursery… and they are FREE! Last year I made an entire garland for ONE DOLLAR (the cost of the wire) using their free clippings. Get creative! Add a small vase in the bathrooms, dining room, kitchen windowsill, your nightstand… anything goes.
Faux Clippings
I’m going to let you in on a little secret and home decor tip. I use real greenery AND faux greenery. Together, it all looks like the real thing! Here I grabbed some lambs ear and berries from my local wal mart and placed them in a vase for a simple dining room arrangement. Another tip for your faux greens… add water to the vase! Again this will make them look like the real deal.
Little Trees Are Worth the Hype
Ahh the little bottle brush trees in the dollar section… Don’t hold back on these, they hold their weight! I have a few that I have collected over the years. Some are realistic looking trees that I purchased at Michaels. And some are the Target Dollar Spot bottle brush trees. There are many you can find with price ranges all over! If you love them, you can purchase a couple here and there depending on your budget. It’s fun to watch the Christmas collection grow throughout the years. Slow and steady is what I say 😉
I style the trees by placing them in tall glass jars with “snow”. You can purchase fake snow but I’ve got a tip for you that’s cheaper than buying said “snow”. SUGAR! It’s has a pretty sheen to it and looks angelic in a jar with a pretty tree. Mason jars work out so well here and I love the winter wonderland effect. If you have empty shelves, this idea works perfectly.
I have also placed my bottle brush trees on miniature cupcake stands and stacked plates for height variation. Get creative and find more places for little trees! I have also seen them used in wreath-making and I think it’s just adorable.
Still Not Over Jars…
For more jar styling, try using battery operated twinkle lights as a filler for a wonderful dreamy look. I have these copper toned bell lights from last year that I popped into a carafe I bought to decorate the dining room shelves with. I fully have no intentions of ever using it as a carafe but I sure love the pretty aesthetic! 😂❤
Collectables are Acceptable
So I never thought I would be one of those people who collected knickknacks but if Target and World Market keep making these little houses I am going to keep buying them because I am OBSESSED. I think this is obvious from looking at my shelves. I have been collecting them over the past couple of years and love the wood and white look. The shapes of the homes together just make me so happy and at peace. I encourage you to open your heart to a knickknack or two… and if you haven’t begun your obsession with little house collecting, then perhaps I can help you on your way 😉.
$3 Dining Chair Upgrade
Upgrade your dining chairs this season for only $3 using Target dollar spot garland. Bonus it is already wrapped in a wreath shape for you! Simply tie a ribbon around to attach to the back of the chair to add a simple touch of the season. You can see my chairs have an opening that makes it easy to loop through. If yours don’t, no worries. You can wrap a ribbon around the whole top portion and then tie the ribbon with the wreath on it around that. I’ll try and share how to do that in my stories!
Customized Stockings
I am not sure about everyone else, but I love the look of personalized stockings. However, they cost a pretty penny! Instead of buying monogrammed stockings that cost a fortune, I add an embellishment to each stocking just for fun. These adorable plush girl and boy ornaments are from Target (again!). They are $3 each, so not bad at all. I love the touch of charm and whimsy they add and my kids love them too.
And while on the topic of stockings… Target really nails it with affordable quality stockings. I will link them all here. The deer one is INSANELY gorgeous and looks like it would run me about $50. In fact I have seen similar ones on Anthropologie. This Target one is only $13 and my mouth is still on the floor… seriously.
Here are all of our stockings that I couldn’t love more. They are only $13 each but investment piece quality. We will have them for years 💕.
I hope you enjoyed this fun look at budget decor for the holidays. It’s always so much fun to share these posts and read them in real time together, just as if we were chatting over a cup of coffee in my living room. Wishing you nothing but the season’s best this year and sending extra love your way. Thanks for hanging out!
